Teachers and tutors who wish to apply must meet strict requirements. Applicants should be actively teaching the relevant subjects at the level being examined or higher. They must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission or the Public Service Commission and hold at least a Diploma in Education.

The Kenya National Examinations Council has unveiled a training programme for examiners who will handle the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, setting the stage for the marking process ahead of the national exams. The exercise, planned for March and April 2026, is aimed at preparing qualified teachers and tutors to assess candidates in line with the council’s marking standards.

In a notice published in the MyGov publication on February 17, 2026, the council said the programme is meant to ensure that only trained and competent personnel take part in marking national examinations. The move is part of efforts to uphold quality, fairness and trust in the assessment process.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to pay a training fee of Sh10,500. Details on how to make the payment will be sent through SMS and made available on the application portal.

The training will be carried out in two phases, starting with online learning before moving to residential sessions. The venue for the physical training will be shared directly with those who secure slots.

Participants will first study digital materials in preparation for the in person sessions, after which they will be deployed to mark KJSEA and KCSE papers depending on subject needs.

Teachers and tutors who wish to apply must meet strict requirements. Applicants should be actively teaching the relevant subjects at the level being examined or higher. They must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission or the Public Service Commission and hold at least a Diploma in Education.

In addition, candidates must have a minimum of three years teaching experience. They should not be facing any disciplinary action or interdiction and must present a recommendation from the head of their institution. The maximum age allowed for applicants is 50 years.

Tutors from teacher training colleges and TVET institutions have been encouraged to apply, especially for technical and creative subjects under KJSEA. These include Home Science, Art, Music, Computer Studies, Woodwork, Metalwork, and Building and Construction.

The application process will be done online through the KNEC examiners portal at https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke. Those with existing CP2 accounts can log in using their current details, while new users are required to create accounts by following instructions provided on the platform.

The council noted that available training slots are limited. Only applicants who meet all the set conditions and submit the required documents will be considered, with shortlisting done on a first come, first served basis.

“This training ensures that examiners are well-prepared and that marking of KJSEA and KCSE papers meets the highest standards of integrity and professionalism,” KNEC said, highlighting the council’s commitment to strengthening the quality and reliability of national examinations.
